Ungava Tulattavik Health Center was pleased to welcome Don Burnstick, a Cree Indigenous Wellness Worker, to Kuujjuaq last week, where he delivered a series of powerful workshops focused on men’s wellness and breaking the cycle of addiction.

Don Burnstick is internationally known for his unique style of comedy, but he is increasingly being recognized for his impactful healing work within Indigenous communities. Drawing from his own lived experiences, he openly shared his personal journey of healing from addiction, offering hope, understanding, and practical tools to participants.
Burnstick uses humour as a central part of his approach, a method he calls “Healing with Humour”. Throughout the workshops, laughter became a way to open difficult conversations, reduce stigma, and create a safe space for men to reflect on their own wellness and healing journeys. Each workshop concluded with a comedy show, reinforcing messages of resilience, strength, and recovery through shared laughter. By combining storytelling, humour, and honest dialogue, Burnstick demonstrated how healing can be both challenging and uplifting.
UTHC thanks Don Burnstick for sharing his wisdom, humour, and lived experience with the community, and for supporting ongoing efforts to promote wellness, healing, and hope among Nunavimmiut men.
