Work conditions

  • Up to 16 weeks of vacation per year

  • 3 or 4 outings per year, depending on family status

  • Short term replacement possibilities

  • Job-sharing possibilities (i.e. 2 months up North, 2 months down South)

  • Nurses may alternate work periods on 4-week/4-week basis in the villages or on a 6-week/6-week basis in Kuujjuak

Lodging is included

  • Moving and storing costs reimbursement

Attractive pay bonuses

  • Remote work allowance : between $10,627 and $22,000/year, depending on posting location and family status

  • High cost of living allowance : between $3,190 and $8,176/year, depending on posting location and family status

  • Temporary attraction/retention allowance for health professionals and technicians (other than nurses) : between $6,000 and $11,750/year, depending on posting location and years of service

  • Nurses retention allowance : between $14,000 and $17,000, depending on posting location

Who can claim a northern leave of absence?

In general, you are eligible for a northern leave of absence if you’re employed by the province’s health and social services network. Provided you are found eligible, contrary to an unpaid leave of absence, a northern leave of absence :

  • can be renewed for a period of up to 48 months

  • allows the accumulated seniority on northern leave to be acknowledged upon return to one’s original establishment

  • Ensure services are provided in a culturally appropriate way

UTHC would like to hire more local people, now and for future generations, in order to serve the community and to offer services in Inuktitut. We are there to support and train you.
