Community services organized a unifying BBQ for the elders of the Tusaajapik residence and the entire community on the last day of the Aqpik Jam festivities, Friday, August 14.
The idea was simple, but important: to bring the party to the elderly. Since the majority of Tusaajapik residents cannot easily travel to attend the many shows presented at the NV theatre in Kuujjuaq, the Community Services team wanted to allow them to fully experience the atmosphere of the Aqpik Jam, directly in their living environment.
The entire community of Kuujjuaq was invited to join the event to create a real celebration around our elders and to allow them to be fully involved in the celebrations. More than 150 people gathered at the beach to share a good meal, enjoy the outdoors and listen to live music.
The musical performances were offered by Kathy Aputiarjuk (Snowball), who performed with Julia Lucassie, one of our multi-talented wellness workers.
Beyond the BBQ and music, this activity created a beautiful moment of encounter between generations and strengthened the ties between elders and the community.
Thank you to Elena Mesher and the entire Community Services team for this great initiative! Thanks to you, the spirit of the Aqpik Jam was able to reach Tusaajapik and allow our elders to celebrate in the heart of the community.
