A Meeting to Better Understand the Realities Faced by Nunavimmiut

On Friday, September 4, Larry Watt, Executive Director of the Ungava Tulattavik Health Center, was pleased to welcome Dr. Caroline Quach, Quebec’s National Director of Public Health, during her visit to Kuujjuaq.

From August 30 to September 4, Dr. Quach visited the communities of Puvirnituq, Kangiqsualujjuaq, and Kuujjuaq. This visit allowed her to meet with people from the region and gain a better, firsthand understanding of the realities faced in Nunavik.

Accompanied by Dr. Nathalie Boulanger, Director of Professional Services, Dr. Quach discussed several public health issues, including mental health prevention and promotion, chronic diseases, the perspectives of young people, tuberculosis, and vaccination.

These discussions underscored the importance of working together, listening to community members, and recognizing local knowledge. It is through these exchanges that we can better understand what truly matters to Ungavimmiut and help provide health services that meet their needs.

For UTHC, providing care begins with listening, engaging, and understanding the realities experienced by patients, their families, and their communities.
